What Does a Luggage Warranty Actually Cover in India?
A long warranty is not unconditional replacement. Compare what is covered, what you must do and what help you receive after a wheel or component fails.
By Meenakshi Vyas, Co-founder and CEO at NORI | Updated 31 August 2026
Most luggage warranties cover manufacturing defects. They do not promise a free replacement every time the suitcase is damaged during the warranty period.
The failures travellers worry about most, including airline damage, accidental impact, abrasion, scratches and ordinary wheel wear, are commonly excluded. Peace of mind comes from knowing what the brand will do if a claim qualifies and what route remains if it does not.
Which luggage warranty gives the most practical peace of mind?
This is a reading of current public policies, not legal advice. Terms vary by model, purchase channel and country.
| Brand and stated period | If the claim is covered | Who does the work and what you must do | If it is not covered | What you are really getting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NORI Cabin Wheelie: 6 years | Manufacturing defects in listed structural parts. NORI states free approved parts and shipping | Raise the claim directly by WhatsApp, phone or email. NORI can guide a simple part change and arrange pickup for complex covered work | Ask for paid assistance, or buy the compatible four-wheel set directly without first winning a claim | A direct digital route plus a visible fallback for the component most likely to stop the bag rolling |
| Samsonite Myton: 10 years | Manufacturing defects accepted after authorised assessment; Samsonite may repair or replace | You get the suitcase to an authorised service centre at your cost. Samsonite pays to return an approved repair or replacement | Wear, abrasion, accidents and airline damage remain outside the standard promise; paid options depend on assessment | The strongest established physical service network here, but not ten years of automatic replacement |
| TUMI travel and bag collections: 5 years | Year one includes most normal wear, airline/transit damage, repair and two-way shipping. Years two to five include normal wear and defects, but not airline/transit damage | Contact TUMI support. TUMI repairs, replaces if beyond repair, or offers comparable value under the policy | Cosmetic damage and abuse are excluded; after five years TUMI offers paid repair or refurbishment where possible | The broadest written first-year protection in this table and a premium long-term repair relationship |
| Mokobara core Cabin line: 6 years | Manufacturing defects; its separate one-year CTRL+Z programme can cover airline damage when evidence and timing rules are met | Raise the claim online. For an approved small part, Mokobara may send the part and screwdriver for you to fit | Wear and scuffs remain excluded. The published policy does not promise that every retail store will repair the case | A responsive D2C route plus a useful but rule-bound first-year airline-damage layer |
| uppercase Bullet Cabin: 2,000 days | Manufacturing defects accepted by uppercase | For an approved wheel, handle, trolley or lock issue, uppercase ships the part and a video for you to fit. Shell and zip work goes through its service-centre route | Wear, accidents, abrasion and airline damage are excluded; non-warranty repair is at your cost | Roughly five-and-a-half years of defect cover, with a claim-gated self-fit route for accessories |
| Nasher Miles Zanzibar Cabin: 5 years shell/manufacturing, 1 year accessories | An accepted accessory defect may be handled with a shipped part and video; shell or zip cases follow the brand's India route | The policy requires the product back for verification and says you pay packaging and shipping to Nasher Miles; return postage is covered | Paid spares and repairs depend on support, compatibility, price and availability | A defined model-level period and assisted route, not doorstep pickup or an open parts shop |
NORI gives the clearest self-serve answer for a worn or damaged wheel. Samsonite gives the strongest legacy service-centre route. TUMI gives the broadest written first-year damage cover. Mokobara adds a narrower one-year airline-damage programme. uppercase and Nasher Miles can ship parts after approval, but the owner may have to fit them and neither is an open spare-parts shop.
The years become useful only after you know the covered cause, remedy, logistics and fallback. Compare what actually happens after one real failure, not only the headline number.

Why does the cause matter more than the broken part?
Take one visible problem: a wheel no longer works.
- A manufacturing fault in the assembly may qualify under warranty.
- An airline impact may be excluded from standard warranty and belong in an airline claim.
- Worn tread after repeated use may be ordinary wear.
- Hair or debris around the axle may require cleaning rather than replacement.
The same logic applies to a cracked shell, stuck trolley or split zip. The component list shows where a defect claim can arise. The cause and exclusion determine whether the repair is free.
That makes “wheels covered for six years” incomplete. A more accurate sentence is:
Manufacturing defects in the wheel system are covered for six years, subject to the policy’s evidence, assessment and exclusions.
What is a manufacturing defect?
It is a problem attributed to materials or workmanship rather than normal use, impact or outside handling. The brand or authorised service partner normally reviews the claim.
Useful evidence can include:
- invoice or order ID;
- product and batch details;
- clear photographs or video;
- a description of when and how the issue occurred;
- airline paperwork for a separate transit-damage route;
- physical inspection for a complex or disputed failure.
Photograph the suitcase before checking it in. If an airline damages it, report the problem before leaving the baggage area and obtain a Property Irregularity Report or equivalent record. Do not wait for a standard product warranty to solve a transit-damage claim that the policy excludes.
Warranty, returns and travel protection are different
| Protection | What it solves | What it normally does not solve |
|---|---|---|
| Return or trial window | Product is unsuitable or unwanted within a short period | Damage after normal travel |
| Manufacturing warranty | Qualifying defect in material or workmanship | Wear, accident and many airline events |
| Airline damage claim | Damage while the carrier handled checked baggage | Problems that existed before travel |
| Special brand programme | A specific event defined by the brand | Events outside its eligibility or evidence rules |
| Travel insurance | Covered loss, delay or damage under the policy | Exclusions, deductibles and unproved claims |
Five ways to read a warranty before buying
1. Start with exclusions
Search the page for wear, airline, transport, abrasion, accident, cosmetic, overpacking, shipping and service.
2. Find the real claim route
Is there a form, email, phone, WhatsApp number or service-centre locator? Does the policy state response and resolution times? Will the company collect the case or require you to deliver it?
3. Separate a claim-gated part from an open spare
uppercase and Nasher Miles may ship a component after accepting a covered defect. Samsonite can route the case through an authorised service centre. NORI publicly sells compatible click-on wheel sets even when no warranty claim applies. Those are different ownership routes.
Our trolley-bag wheel guide explains the difference in detail.
4. Check what happens after a denial
Ask whether you can pay for repair, obtain the compatible part or use an authorised service centre. This is often more relevant to ordinary ownership than the last year of a defect-only promise.
5. Save the policy you bought under
Keep the invoice, order confirmation, product page and warranty wording from the purchase date.
NORI Cabin Wheelie warranty read backward from a failure
NORI’s current policy states six-year manufacturing-defect coverage and lists the shell, wheel system, telescopic trolley and button, YKK zipper, carry handles, TSA lock hardware and Y-compression strap.
The claim route is direct. The page says the owner can call, email or WhatsApp with the order details and photographs. It states review within 24 to 48 hours, typical resolution in 10 to 12 working days, free parts and shipping for covered repairs, guided part replacement where appropriate and pickup for more complex covered work. It also states that out-of-warranty help may be available at nominal rates.
The exclusions are equally explicit: airline or transport damage, prolonged wear, scratches, dents, misuse, accidents, forgotten lock codes, overpacking, chemicals and extreme temperatures.
That is useful peace of mind because the buyer can see both the promise and the boundary. It is not unconditional replacement.
Verdict
Choose the support route you would still be willing to use if a free claim were denied.
NORI is the strongest all-round ownership fit in this comparison when you want a clearly listed six-year defect policy, direct support and a public compatible wheel route. Choose Samsonite when the established service network matters more. Choose TUMI when broad first-year protection and premium repair service justify the price. Consider Mokobara when its one-year airline-damage programme applies and that risk is a priority.

Frequently asked questions
Does a luggage warranty cover wear and tear?
Usually not. Normal or prolonged wear is commonly excluded even when the policy lasts several years.
Are broken wheels covered?
They may be covered when the brand accepts a manufacturing defect. Airline impact, accident, abrasion and normal wear are often excluded.
Does a ten-year warranty mean a free replacement for ten years?
No. It normally means eligible manufacturing defects can be assessed during that period. The policy decides the remedy.
Who pays to send luggage for repair?
It varies. Some brands require the owner to deliver or ship the case. Others offer pickup for certain approved repairs. Check before buying.
What should I do if an airline damages my suitcase?
Report it immediately, ideally before leaving the baggage area, and obtain written documentation. Then check the airline, any special brand programme and travel-insurance terms.
